“It was the best fishing one can imagine,” said Anglers Inn guest David Otter about his recent return trip to Lake El Salto. My fishing partner, Jimmy Patterson, and I have fished with Anglers Inn before and on this trip we caught too many six-to-nine-pound bass to count. Five of our catches were over 10 pounds. What a trip!”  

New Mexico resident Otter has been retired for over 20 years after a long career in the electronics industry for the Eaton Corporation. His job focused not only here in the United States but across Europe and into Canada. His early retirement has afforded him many opportunities to go fishing and he has made Anglers Inn and Lake El Salto his top destination choice for two decades.

Otter and Patterson were among the very first anglers on Lake El Salto in some time. There has been no fishing pressure or tilapia fishing for many months, and all the bass had big bellies. But that didn’t take away the bite as Patterson relied heavily on plastic worms and Otter’s favorite baits were swimbaits and chatterbaits. For four days the pair enjoyed mostly stable weather with an occasional shower to interrupt the action.

“Our guide was phenomenal and knows the lake so well and where the fish are,” continued Otter. “He expertly controlled the boat and always had us in the right position for casting to the fish. We really never fished the same area twice and it was great to fish an uncrowded lake like we have here at home. We just love the Anglers Inn boat with the guide managing everything from the back and giving us the entire boat for our fishing.  

“Jimmy and I can’t say enough about the lodge and staff. The entire lodge is in top shape, and our rooms were clean and comfortable as usual. We are never disappointed in the staff’s friendliness, and their service just cannot be beat. The daily laundry service is a great help so we could pack light and have fresh clothes every day. And the food was top notch with huge portions.”  

The monsoons are about to begin in earnest so the lake will be full when Otter and his group return in October.
